Traffic Control Laborer

Full-time position with the City of Salina, Kansas.

About the role

The Traffic Control Laborer performs a variety of tasks related to the installation, maintenance, and removal of traffic control devices and signs to ensure safe and efficient traffic flow within the city.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, and remove traffic signs, barricades, cones, and other traffic control devices.
• Assist with the setup and takedown of traffic control for special events, construction zones, and emergencies.
• Inspect traffic control devices for damage or wear and report issues for repair or replacement.
• Operate hand tools, power tools, and small equipment safely and efficiently.
• Follow traffic control plans and diagrams to ensure compliance with city, state, and federal regulations.
• Direct traffic as needed during events, construction, or emergencies.
• Assist with pavement marking and striping operations.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Ability to read and interpret traffic control plans and diagrams.
• Basic knowledge of traffic control devices and their proper use.
• Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, and small equipment safely.
• Physical ability to perform tasks such as lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
• Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
