TRAFFIC CONTROL AIDE-HOURLY

About the role

This position is open to the public and all current City employees covered under the City’s collective bargaining agreement with Public Safety - S.E.I.U. Local 73, I.B.E.W. - Local 21 (Bargaining Unit #02).

Responsibilities

• Directs and controls the flow of traffic to ensure the safety of pedestrians crossing at intersections
• Performs special traffic control assignments at parades, special events, and Chicago's Midway and O'Hare Airports to assist in crowd control and to ensure the safe crossing of pedestrians and efficient vehicle flow
• Prepares reports to document accidents or atypical incidents occurring during assigned shift
• Aids disabled and elderly pedestrians across intersections as required
• Answers inquiries and gives geographic directions to the public
• Sets up and retrieves traffic cones and barricades for traffic and crowd control

Requirements

• Willingness and ability to perform the duties of the job
• Licensure, Certification, Or Other Qualifications: Successful completion of a job training program is required after hire
• Minimum Qualifications: Must be at least 19 years of age at the closing date of the application

Qualifications

• City Colleges of Chicago - Intro to Emergency Management & Communications (OEMC) Certificate Preference: The City of Chicago offers a preference to individuals who have successfully completed the City of Chicago/City Colleges of Chicago partnership program resulting in a certificate of completion for the Introduction to Emergency Management & Communications (OEMC) course.
