Traffic Accident Investigator

Duties

  • Investigate all types of traffic crashes from minor to fatalities.
  • Determine fault and issue state citations.
  • Testify in court.
  • Respond to court subpoenas to testify.
  • Prepare various offense/incident reports.
  • Conduct interviews with witnesses, victims, and suspects.
  • Process crime scenes for latent fingerprints and other physical evidence.
  • Assist citizens with vehicle identification number (VIN) verifications.
  • Provide emergency medical assistance to injured persons at crash scenes.
  • Attend various city functions such as Slice of Springs, Our Town, and city commission meetings.
  • Perform bicycle registrations and explain crime prevention.
  • Assist with parking complaints.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Some related experience.
  • Must attend 104 hour Police Service Aide Foundations course if not already completed.
  • Certifications must be acquired upon hire in Traffic Control and Direction, Parking Enforcement, First Responder First Aid and CPR.
  • Maintain valid Florida Driver's license.

Qualifications

  • Physical ability to meet requirements.
  • Compliance with night, weekend, and holiday work requirements.

Supplemental Information

Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office or meeting and training rooms, e.g., use of safe work place practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire and building safety regulations, and traffic signals when driving.
