About the Role

A Trades Generalist performs journey-level work in one trade, and skilled and semi-skilled level work in a combination of other trades related to the repair and maintenance of facilities and equipment. Incumbents may supervise others in maintenance, repair, installation, and construction activities. The role requires working knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in assigned crafts, as well as applicable standards and plumbing and electrical code regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform HVAC maintenance and repairs
  • Monitor Building Management Systems (BMS)
  • Conduct building construction and repairs
  • Install and repair electrical systems
  • Perform plumbing installations and repairs
  • Install and repair fences and gates
  • Construct concrete walks
  • Install and finish drywall
  • Paint interior and exterior building surfaces
  • Perform landscaping and snow removal
  • Use hand tools, portable power tools, shop equipment, and measuring/testing instruments appropriate for assigned crafts
  • Plan, lay out work, and diagnose problems
  • Train and supervise others in maintenance and repair activities
  • Understand and carry out written and oral instructions

Requirements

  • Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson, providing training equivalent to that given in an apprenticeship or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained through technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services
  • Valid New York State driver’s license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated (when required to operate motor vehicles)
  • Ability to work outdoors in various environmental conditions
  • Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain and work in remote areas
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions
  • Must be available for emergency response and after-hours emergencies
  • Must be able to lift and move objects up to 60 pounds
  • Use of personal protection equipment, including a respirator, may be required

Additional Considerations

  • Actual work schedule, duties, and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview
  • Overtime, weekend, and holiday work may be required
  • Overnight travel may be required
