About the role
This position repairs mobile equipment and smaller equipment owned by LA DOTD. The role is located in District 05/Operations/Unit 071/Ouachita Parish and reports directly to the Mechanic Supervisor B.
Responsibilities
- Makes repairs to heavy and light duty mobile equipment including tune-ups, overhauls, and rebuilds.
- Diagnoses engines, final drives, transmissions, hydraulic systems, drive lines, cooling systems, suspensions, and fuel system repairs.
- Performs diagnostic tests and repairs using computerized testing equipment such as scanners, engine and exhaust analyzers, ampere and volt testers, fuel pressure and hydraulic pressure testing equipment, and electrical and computerized ignition systems testing equipment.
- Performs engine tune-ups and common repairs to cooling systems, suspension systems, and hydraulic manual brake systems.
- Assists mechanics in training and makes repairs in both shop and field settings.
- May perform emergency/disaster support activities as necessary.
Requirements
- Possess and maintain a Class D Chauffeur's License.
- Operate passenger vehicles, rollback wrecker, heavy equipment (when necessary), computers, cell phones, and mobile radios.
- Working knowledge of various hand tools, power tools, impact tools, diagnostic computers and tools, air condition recovery systems, presses, auto lifts, and hydraulic testing equipment.
- Able to sit, squat, walk, bend, and climb.
- Lift a maximum of fifty (50) pounds; manual lifting of more than fifty (50) pounds requires assistance.
Qualifications
No experience or training is required.

The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
Schedule
Work hours are 6:00 am - 4:30 pm, Monday-Thursday.
Appointment Type: Probational, Promotional, or Detail to Special Duty. Career progression is available.
