About the Role

This role supports the buying and selling of green coffee by contributing to effective trading operations and commercial execution. As a member of the trading team, you will assist in executing local trading and marketing strategies, logistics management, customer relationship management, and operational excellence while building the knowledge and skills required to grow into a Trader role.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the group’s strategy, including deep analysis of supply/demand and market risks.
  • Build relationships with suppliers at origin and bring market intelligence to the trading team.
  • Handle direct and indirect sourcing responsibility for specific origins.
  • Manage physical long and short positions to ensure timely delivery without quality issues.
  • Control risk positions for specific origins via daily reports and anticipate potential delays or losses.
  • Monitor unships and sales match reports to support inbound and outbound teams with destinations and contract allocations.
  • Cup daily with the QC Manager to ensure pre-shipment and arrival samples meet contract specifications.
  • Develop new customers through trade contacts, cold calling, trade shows, and other acquisition strategies.
  • Conduct recurring check-ins with existing, dormant, and prospective customers.
  • Enhance knowledge of market risks to support managers in mitigating related risks.
  • Support managers with supply/demand and market analysis to optimize gains and protect against market moves.
  • Develop expertise in green coffee grading and cupping to support the QC Department and manage quality rejections and claims.
  • Manage spot inventory and prepare offering lists.
  • Prepare periodic market reports for clients and supervisors.
  • Monitor accounts receivable (A/R) of customers.
  • Follow up with the logistics team on shipments and deliveries to ensure timeliness.
  • Empower logistics teams to avoid problems/delays and assist in resolutions.
  • Represent the company at trade shows and conventions, organizing meetings with suppliers and customers.
  • Identify and evaluate competitive products, new markets, opportunities, and competitors.
  • Buy and sell green coffee in close communication with the trading team, inputting contracts within 24 hours of business confirmation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in international trade, supply chain, logistics, business administration, or finance management.
  • 5+ years of commercial experience in coffee preferred, with a focus on green coffee, quality, sensory, grading, and futures/options trading.
  • Experience with commodities is preferred.

Skills

  • Basic understanding of commodity markets and futures trading; willingness to learn is essential.
  • Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret market data.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications; experience with ERP or trading systems is an advantage.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills for cross-functional and multicultural teams.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and commercial awareness.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally for supplier visits, customer meetings, and industry events.
  • Interest in developing knowledge of green coffee grading, cupping, quality evaluation, and market risk management through on-the-job training.
  • Foreign language skills (Spanish) are a plus.
