Tractor Technician
Under close supervision, this position performs basic maintenance, service, and repair of J.B. Hunt tractors and other equipment. Technicians ensure units meet J.B. Hunt specifications at all times. Work may occur outdoors, in various weather conditions, and across multiple shifts including nights and/or weekends, with possible overtime.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate foundational technical knowledge of preventative maintenance, replacement of parts/components, and basic repairs for tractor maintenance, including but not limited to:
- Fuel system
- Battery
- Engine
- Drive train
- Onboard computer
- Transmission
- Air brake systems
- FHWA Inspections
- Work independently and seek assistance as needed.
- Understand and follow all shop safety procedures.
- Maintain professional communication with J.B. Hunt personnel and customers.
- Accurately perform basic repairs to company and manufacturer’s specifications, complete work orders, and demonstrate proficiency in company requirements for standard repair times (SRT) and warranty guidelines.
Requirements
- 18 years of age with 1 year of experience in semi-tractor maintenance and repair and/or training and/or military equivalent experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Willingness to work outdoors, in various weather conditions, or across multiple shifts including nights and/or weekends if needed.
- Basic tools are required; these must be supplied by the employee in most locations. Employees without their own tools may obtain them through a toolbox purchase program.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- At least 1 year of experience in DOT inspections, FHWA inspections, and air brakes.
- Ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal).
- Ability to fulfill physical requirements (lift/move objects up to 50 lbs).
- Ability to multitask.
- Ability to read documents and/or information in English.
- Ability to wear appropriate work attire (protective gear/PPE).
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Basic active listening skills.
- Basic computer skills and/or comfort working with a computer.
- Basic deductive reasoning skills.
- Basic organizational skills.
- Basic time management skills.
- Self-motivation.
Pay
Competitive starting pay ranges are available. Factors such as skills, education, experience, geography, and other qualifications may affect starting pay within this range. This position may be eligible for annual bonus and incentives based on profitability or volumes.

Schedule
Shifts may vary based on location and business needs. Full-time attendance is required, with possible overtime.
