Trackman
Starting pay rates may vary based on entry rates in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). This is a Union position.
About the role
Reporting directly to the Engineering Department, the Trackman will maintain, construct, and dismantle all track and roadway facilities. Performs other related duties as assigned to meet the ongoing needs of the organization. Metra is a railroad employer subject to the provisions of the Railroad Retirement Tax Act, not the Social Security Administration.
Responsibilities
- Replace and renew defective cross ties, tracks, and switches in accordance with Metra safety rules and standards.
- Maintain roadways including the removal of snow and ice from switches and platforms.
- Remove brushes from Right of Way and mow station grounds.
- Load and unload track materials from company vehicles, using a truck crane when necessary.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED).
- Able to lift, carry, and move equipment and materials weighing up to 60-70 pounds.
- Able to withstand all kinds of inclement weather, including extreme cold and heat, rain, snow, and humidity.
- Flexibility to work at any location within the six-county region. Must have dependable transportation to work at any of the several yards and work locations.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Able to work weekends.
Qualifications
- Experienced performing duties as described in FRA Track Safety Standards Part 213 Subpart A to F.
- Qualified to supervise restorations and renewals of track under traffic conditions.
- Experience determining remedial actions of track FRA defects.
- Class B – CDL (preferred).
Pay
Salary Range: $34.27 - $34.27 per hour.
