About the role
We are one of the largest U.S. railroads responsible for transporting essential products and materials across 28 western states and 3 Canadian provinces. As a member of our team, you will contribute to the construction, inspection, and repair of tracks and other railroad assets.
Responsibilities
- Track maintenance repair and installation
- Repair and rebuild railroad track
- Maintain trackbed by manually compressing ballast, removing/installing ties, cutting, and adjusting rail
- Remove/install hazards such as brush, trees, vegetation, litter, and cargo spillage
- Operate various hand and power tools including drills, impact wrenches, jacks, power saws, and grinders
- Perform tasks in a safety-sensitive environment including handling heavy machinery and working in diverse weather conditions
Requirements
- Able to work independently and in a team setting
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to lift up to 60 lbs occasionally
- Visual acuity to distinguish colors and auditory discrimination for safety purposes
- Physical ability to perform tasks requiring bending, standing, sitting, and walking on uneven surfaces
Qualifications
- Able to work now and in the future without BNSF’s assistance in obtaining, maintaining, or extending employment authorization
- At least 18 years of age or will be by the anticipated start date
- Union membership with the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees (BMWE)

Pay
The entry rate is approximately $36.30/hr.
Schedule
This is a full-time (40 hours/week) position subject to on-call, overtime, nights, alternating shifts, weekends, and holidays.
