Track Engineer

Overview

VHB is seeking a Track Engineer/Designer to join their Transit & Rail Engineering team. This position offers opportunities to work on complex transit and rail infrastructure projects and contribute to the growth of the team.

Responsibilities

• Producing and delivering transit and rail projects from concept through design and into construction phase services
• Performing civil design on various rail projects including track structure and drainage, alignment geometry, grade crossings, stations, and layover facilities
• Managing the development of technical specifications and construction contract documents
• Aiding in the development of construction cost estimates
• Preparing written technical documents including design narratives, summarizing information collected by others, and assembling reports
• Participating in industry organizations such as ACEC, AREMA, and APTA

Skills and Attributes

• Working knowledge of standard concepts, practices, and procedures in transit and rail engineering
• Skilled in technical design; experience with AutoCAD Civil3D and MicroStation (preferably OpenRail or OpenRoads)
• Proficient with Microsoft Office suite
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Team-oriented with ability to perform multiple tasks independently and delegate tasks to junior staff
• Self-motivated, highly organized, and detail-oriented

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5-8 years of transit and rail engineering experience
• BS in Civil Engineering or MS preferred (an engineering Masters degree can be substituted for 2 years of experience)
• PE license or ability to obtain within 6 months

Pay

Our best estimate of the salary range for this position located in Boston, MA is $100,000-120,000. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education, and experience.
