TPWD - Maintenance Specialist III (Operations Ranger - Backup Utility Plant Operator)

About the role

The Maintenance Specialist position at Ray Roberts Lake State Park - Isle Du Bois Unit performs complex building maintenance and construction work, including facility, equipment, and grounds maintenance. The position also serves as the Back-Up Utility Plant Operator (UPO) and assists in the operation, maintenance, and repairs of the Water Distribution System and Wastewater Treatment Systems.

Responsibilities

• Operates all types of equipment such as trucks, tractors, mowers, and power tools.
• Provides quality visitor services by issuing permits, collecting revenue, providing information, and registering visitors.
• Affords assistance in enforcing park rules and regulations, performing resource management tasks, and interpreting the park’s natural resources.
• Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Education: Graduation from High School or GED.
• Experience: Three years of facility, equipment, or grounds maintenance experience.
• Licensure: Must possess a valid State driver's license. Must possess or be able to obtain, within one year of employment, a class 'D' Water Operator License and a class 'D' Wastewater Operator license issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). Must possess or be able to obtain, within three years of employment, a class 'C' Water Operator license issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).

Qualifications

• Knowledge of building and facility repair techniques such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, or mechanical.
• Knowledge of general maintenance techniques.
• Knowledge of general custodial duties.
• Knowledge of TCEQ rules and regulations governing the proper operation and performance standards for Wastewater and Water Treatment Plants.
• Skills in using MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Skills in effective verbal and written communication.
• Skills in the use of hand and power tools, mowers, trimmers, tractors, boats, vehicles, welders, generators, and other mechanical equipment.
• Skills in establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with co-workers and work-related contacts.
• Skills in providing quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner.
• Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
• Ability to work as a member of a team.
• Ability to operate and maintain utility systems in accordance with TCEQ rules and regulations.
• Ability to perform manual labor including, lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.
