About the role
This position performs complex (journey-level) building maintenance and construction work at Lake Corpus Christi State Park. The role involves operating various equipment, issuing permits, collecting revenue, providing information, and registering visitors.
Responsibilities
- Operate all types of equipment, including trucks, tractors, mowers, hand tools, and power tools.
- Provide quality visitor services by issuing permits, collecting revenue, providing information, and registering visitors using an automated registration system.
- Afford assistance in enforcing park rules and regulations, performing resource management tasks, and interpreting the park's natural resources.
- Work under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
- Complete all reports as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Education: Graduation from High School or GED.
- Experience: Three years of facility, equipment, or grounds maintenance experience.
- Licenses: Must possess a valid State driver's license.
Qualifications
- Knowledge: General facility, equipment, and grounds maintenance; basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical, masonry, janitorial, and mechanical maintenance and repair tasks; accounting/accountability of revenue collection; basic mathematics; general custodial duties; construction, repair, maintenance, and operation of buildings, equipment, and utility systems; construction, repair, maintenance, and operation of buildings, equipment, and utility systems.
- Skills: Using MS Word, Excel, and Outlook; using standard office equipment; effective verbal and written communication; providing quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner; establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with co-workers and work-related contacts; using hand and power tools, mowers, trimmers, chainsaws, tractors, vehicles, generators, and other mechanical equipment; making independent, sound, and timely decisions; selecting appropriate tools and equipment; troubleshooting situations to determine appropriate actions to resolve problems; working effectively in a fast-paced environment; working independently with little or no supervision; accurately handling cash and account for revenue collected; working as a member of a team; following instructions; communicating effectively; providing guidance to others; performing manual labor, including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs; conducting work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.
Benefits
Required to work in a public park with overnight camping and day use. Required to work hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with days off other than Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. Required to respond to emergencies and on-call situations. Required to perform work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions. Required to perform manual labor, including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs. Required to operate a State vehicle. Required to travel 5% with possible overnight stays.
Pay
The pay for this position is commensurate with experience.
