This role supports the South Carolina Welcome Center Program, which aims to increase travel expenditures and expand economic development within the state's tourism industry. The centers generate millions in additional travel revenue by simplifying travel planning and offering complimentary services, including proactive one-on-one marketing by highly trained staff. The Welcome Centers also make complimentary accommodation and attraction reservations for travelers at no cost to industry partners, with the goal of maximizing tourism expenditures in the state.
Responsibilities
- Provide excellent customer service to every visitor of the Welcome Center.
- Increase visitor spending in South Carolina through front-line information service and promotion of destinations.
- Influence current and future visitor travel plans to extend stays and boost expenditures.
- Deliver a positive, quality customer service experience to all visitors.
- Promote South Carolina destinations and accommodations to visitors.
- Expand personal knowledge of South Carolina tourism products and Welcome Center operations through regular training.
- Maintain complete and accurate inventory of literature and promotional materials.
- Gather and enter traveler research information into a database.
- Maintain strong working relationships with Visitor Service staff and partners to meet program goals.
- Encourage open communication and promote teamwork within the center and with external tourism partners.
Requirements
- Associate degree in hospitality, marketing, public relations, retail, or a closely related field preferred, or high school graduate/GED with two years of customer service and public contact experience in a related field.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, perform inventory duties, and work a 37.5-hour rotating schedule including weekends and holidays.
- Job involves extensive walking and standing.
- Computer skills and occasional overnight training-related travel required.
- Strong customer service, oral, and written communication skills.
- Ability to provide travel-related information, assist with directions and reservations, and stock/inventory literature.
- Valid Driver’s License or government-issued ID required.
Schedule
- Full-time, 37.5 hours per week.
- Rotating schedule including weekends and holidays.
