About the role

The Tourism and Communications Coordinator serves as the City’s primary marketing and communications professional, responsible for developing and implementing tourism marketing strategies that promote the community, its attractions, events, and businesses. This position manages the City’s website, social media platforms, and other communication channels to provide timely, engaging information to residents and visitors while supporting the City’s brand and public outreach efforts. The role also assists with the operation of the Visitor Center and collaborates with City departments, community partners, and local stakeholders to support organizational goals, special projects, and community engagement initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with planning and implementing tourism strategies for the City.
  • Manages duties for identified tourism strategies.
  • Handles the administration of the City's Tourism Grant Program.
  • Manages City social media accounts, including creating and designing content.
  • Collects information, updates, and maintains the City's Governmental and Tourism websites.
  • Collaborates with other departmental staff to operate the Visitor Center and host/promote City events.

Qualifications

A strong candidate exhibits the following characteristics:

  • Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing, with residents, visitors, business owners, community partners, and City Staff.
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, and trends related to marketing, public relations, and communication strategies, including digital marketing, social media management, content creation, and audience engagement.
  • Skill in utilizing software for developing promotional materials and public information content, such as Adobe.
  • Skill in creating engaging written, graphic, photographic, and video content for diverse audiences.
  • Decision-making with professional judgment and initiative within the framework of established regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize as needed.
  • Responsive to inquiries, concerns, and complaints while maintaining effective customer service.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A valid Texas driver's license.
  • One to three years of experience in Marketing, Communications, or a similar role preferred.
