Torque Ring Technician

About the role

Assist the Torque Ring department in installation and monitoring while following all Torque Ring policies and procedures. This is a safety-sensitive position.

Responsibilities

  • Perform work in a professional and safe manner; report unsafe work practices.
  • Coordinate with your Lead, Supervisor, and PRT Dispatcher before leaving the facility to discuss job objectives, equipment, and personnel.
  • Ensure all equipment is loaded and documented before leaving the shop.
  • Assist your Lead and/or Supervisor during installation and/or monitor operations.
  • Return equipment and torque rings after job completion.
  • Pay close attention to equipment and torque ring needs for installation and monitoring.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed paperwork for torque ring installation and monitoring.
  • Assist coworkers with duties as needed.
  • Maintain focus during torque ring monitoring for several hours without fatigue.
  • Report all incidents to PTR, drilling rig, and company personnel.
  • Maintain the highest level of quality in all tasks.
  • Load and unload torque rings safely.
  • Keep accurate inventory of torque rings and perform spot/full inventories when requested.
  • Adhere to and ensure compliance with all company policies, rules, procedures, and housekeeping standards.
  • Work a rotational schedule and be available 24 hours for job callouts; stay in contact with Dispatch and coworkers.
  • Complete required safety classes and attend PTR compliance classes and monthly safety meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 2-3 years of field service experience.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Skills

  • Hands-on physical work.
  • Basic computer and math skills.
  • Strong communication and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to identify shoulder and final torque on graphs.
  • Ability to work independently while on duty.
  • Ability to identify torque ring sizes, weights, and threads.
  • Ability to distinguish between acceptable and unacceptable torque control graphs.
  • Understanding of the following terms: Delta Torque, Shoulder Torque, Optimum, Maximum and Minimum Torque, J-Space, Make-up loss, pin face, final measurement, BTC, LTC.
