About the role
VAL-CO, a leader in commercial poultry, egg, and swine production equipment, is seeking a Toolroom Journeyman for our Coldwater, Ohio facility. This role offers competitive wages, excellent benefits, and generous PTO.
Responsibilities
- Properly and safely set up and operate all toolroom machinery, including CNC machines, without supervision.
- Produce and assemble quality machined/ground components from print to tolerances up to ±.0005" without supervision and in a timely manner.
- Assemble dies, fixtures, and jigs to assembly print.
- Work independently on assigned jobs with minimal supervision.
- Understand machining/grinding tendencies of different tool steels and the necessary machine settings/cutting tools to produce machined/ground parts to print.
- Maintain a clean, orderly work area and follow all safety rules.
- Perform routine maintenance on toolroom machines.
- Maintain a healthy, cooperative, and cordial working relationship with fellow toolroom staff.
- Troubleshoot tooling and fixtures.
- Conduct must reflect the company’s published core values and good character.
Requirements
- 4 years of machining and tool and die building experience, machine building/re-building, or approved schooling.
- Good understanding of tool steel properties and heat-treating characteristics.
- Proficient in reading standard component and assembly prints, including understanding standard print terminology and symbols.
- Provide own machinist tools and be proficient in using them.
- Pass a company machinist math test.
- Quality and safety-conscious attitude.
- Ability to program and run toolroom CNC machines.
- Capable of welding standard tool steels (hot rolled, cold rolled, and tool steels).
Essential Job Functions
- Ability to turn laterally 90 degrees to the right and left.
- Lift up to 50 lbs to waist height.
- Stand for an 8-hour shift.
- Legibly complete all necessary paperwork.
- Position parts in machines and simultaneously actuate clamps to secure parts.
- Properly use hand tools, writing utensils, and measuring devices to meet quality, safety, and quantity standards.
- Read, understand, and operate CNC controls.
