Tooling Support Coordinator
About the role
Penske Truck Leasing, the leader in the transportation industry, offers an exciting and unique opportunity for an Equipment Repair Technician (SETS). This entry-level role focuses on performing inspections, preventative maintenance, and light repair on shop equipment and tools across Penske service facilities in your assigned geographical area. You will work 10-hour shifts, four days a week (Monday–Thursday), driving a Shop Equipment & Tooling Support (SETS) truck and interacting with technicians, maintenance supervisors, and service managers. Inspections are completed digitally to capture information, automate approvals, and manage inventory. While some assignments allow you to return home the same day, others may require travel, with a return home every weekend. You will collaborate with the Tooling & Service Bay Technology team to identify process and tooling improvements, contributing to the success of Penske’s world-class maintenance operations.
Responsibilities
- Perform SETS inspections and light repair procedures.
- Collaborate with location staff and the SETS team to schedule visits.
- Communicate repair or replacement recommendations based on inspection results.
- Maintain organization and cleanliness of the SETS truck.
- Communicate tool, replacement part, and garage supplies inventory needs.
- Identify areas for SETS process improvement.
- Assist with training new associates on inspection and repair processes.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements
- 0–3 years of experience as an automotive or heavy-duty technician with diagnostics and repair experience preferred.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- ALI Inspection Certification preferred.
- CDI Torque Wrench Certification Training preferred.
- ASE Certifications preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or tech school degree preferred.
- Excellent organization, customer service, and communication skills.
- Experience using tools of the trade, including computers, tablets, cellular devices, hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and web-based applications (e.g., Outlook, Teams, Smartsheet, Salesforce).
- Regular, predictable, full-time attendance is essential.
- Willingness to travel within the geographical area (Penske Truck Leasing locations) and work the required schedule.
- Must complete Penske employment application, pass a background screening (including criminal checks, past employment, and education), and pass a drug screening.
Physical Qualifications
- Frequent movement, standing, walking, climbing, bending, and sitting for extended periods.
- Routine and daily use of hands to grasp, reach, touch, handle, or operate tools and controls.
- Ability to work safely at heights using ladders and elevated working platforms.
- Ability to work safely in all weather conditions.
- Must be able to see and hear to safely navigate the work environment, especially with large trucks moving through the workplace.
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs (23 kg) and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 lbs (45 kg).
Schedule
10-hour shifts, 4 days a week (Monday–Thursday). Some travel within the assigned geographical area is required, with a return home every weekend.
