About the role

The Tooling Supervisor supervises and coordinates activities of Tool and Die Makers and Trainees, and helps train Tool and Die Trainees.

Responsibilities

  • Daily communication of tooling issues and prioritization to maximize press room productivity and machine utilization.
  • Manage tooling personnel in all required tooling activities.
  • Actively participate in tool design to ensure reliability, quality, and safety; maintain competent sources for design and fabrication of tools and machines.
  • Apply new manufacturing technologies and evaluate manufacturing opportunities.
  • Participate in product design activities to optimize productivity and costs; suggest alternative designs, materials, or processes.
  • Resolve problems while maintaining good rapport with customers.
  • Recommend changes for practical and economical manufacturing processes, including material, labor, tooling, and equipment.
  • Participate in selecting, approving, and developing tooling and equipment to meet manufacturing requirements and product design intent.
  • Serve as customer liaison for tool design and engineering matters.
  • Ensure new tooling meets production goals and timing; work with tool vendors to address tool performance or adherence to build standards.
  • Liaise with tool and equipment manufacturers, contractors, and tool and die job shops; review tool build progress and engineering levels to meet or improve schedules.
  • Initiate and supervise tooling changes upon receipt of tooling authorization to satisfy engineering change requirements.
  • Pursue quality improvements in the stamping process.
  • Work closely with the Advance Manufacturing Group to ensure plants adopt the latest technological advances.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Complete all required training mandated by Adient and its customers.
  • Comply with BOS, ISO/TS-16949, and Customer Specific Requirements.

Requirements

  • Journeyman Tool and Die Card through the Department of Labor.
  • Previous experience supervising skilled trades.
  • Experience training employees in the tool and die trade.
  • Previous experience working as a tool and die maker in a metals plant.
  • Experience with progressive and transfer dies.
  • Solid leadership skills.
  • Must be able to meet U.S. work authorization requirements (INS Form I-9).

Schedule

2nd shift hours (3:00 PM – 12:00 AM) plus overtime as needed.

Primary location: Battle Creek Seating Component.
