Tooling Engineer Design (Plastic Injection Molding)

About the role
We are seeking a Tooling Engineer / Designer to join the SyBridge engineering team at our Fitchburg, Massachusetts or Erie, Pennsylvania facility. This individual will work closely within the Engineering department and with Operations and Commercial teams to create and own mold tool design and subsequent documentation.
Responsibilities
- Complete engineering projects, including designing tooling
- Verify and check functional needs of manifold to ensure compliance with mold flow requirements
- Modify and/or develop cooling and ejection systems
- Verify mechanisms function properly in the design
- Understand and apply customer or SyBridge standards to mold design
- Verify mold meets customer and try-out location press parameters
- Incorporate machining and mold-making best practices with consideration for cost and timing
- Independently attend customer reviews as needed
- Incorporate all customer and SyBridge safety standards into tool designs
- Initiate purchase requisitions for block size, manifolds, and other purchased components
- Manage fluctuating workloads, multitask on jobs, and handle conflicting priorities with sufficient information to proceed
- Serve as the key authority on tooling design decisions
- Ensure adequate steel and seal-off conditions, water locations, ejection quantity/size, tool strength (pillars, manifold cutout, plate thickness), assembly feasibility, and approve manifolds
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Two to five years of related experience designing tooling/plastic injection molds or equivalent experience
- Two to five years of experience with CAD (SolidWorks preferred)
- Ability to work independently to scheduled workloads and perform under pressure
- Strong prioritization skills to meet deadlines and ensure quality standards per SyBridge and customer requirements
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and communicating with cross-functional teams
- Up to 15% travel required
Qualifications
Preferred education and experience:
- 4-year engineering degree with two to five years of career experience, or
- College certification (mold making & design), associate design degree, or high school/GED with five to seven years of career experience
