Injection Molding Tooling Engineer

The Injection Molding Tooling Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the tools, dies, molds, and fixtures used in the production of parts or products, ensuring they are functional, efficient, and capable of producing high-quality components.
Responsibilities
- Tooling Design Review: Conduct in-depth reviews of tooling designs for plastic components, ensuring compliance with engineering standards, manufacturing requirements, and customer specifications.
- Collaboration with Engineering Teams: Work closely with engineering teams to design cost-efficient tools while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Mold Flow Analysis: Utilize mold flow simulation software to analyze plastic flow into molds, identify issues, and optimize designs for enhanced production efficiency.
- Supplier Collaboration (RFQ Process): Partner with tooling suppliers during the RFQ process to develop optimized solutions balancing cycle time, quality, and cost.
- Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation on tooling designs, analysis results, and process improvements.
- Adherence to Industry Standards & Continuous Improvement: Ensure tooling processes align with industry standards and stay updated on the latest technologies to drive continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Plastics Engineering, or a related field. Additional certifications in tooling, CAD, or related areas are a plus.
- Experience: Minimum of 7 years in tooling engineering or related manufacturing engineering roles, with hands-on experience in injection molding tool design, manufacturing, and maintenance.
- Skills:
- Expertise in injection molding tooling design and mold making processes.
- Proficiency in GD&T, SPC, DOE, and Six Sigma techniques.
- Knowledge of plastic processes: 2-shot molding, IMD, IML, and insert molding.
- Familiarity with secondary processes like machining and decorating (anodizing, plating, painting).
- Experience with CAD software (SolidWorks) and mold flow analysis.
- Strong understanding of tool quoting, price negotiations, and cost breakdowns.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working with suppliers and cross-functional teams.
