Tooling Designer
About the role
We are seeking a skilled individual to join our team at the New Tooling & Technology Center, focusing on stamping tooling design, build, debug, and production support. This role involves analyzing customer specifications, part prints, and 3D CAD data to design tools, fixtures, and gauges that manufacture parts to exact specifications within required timeframes. You will determine part producibility within given tolerances, apply knowledge of tool and die design, shop mathematics, metal properties, and machining processes, and collaborate with team members throughout the design and debug processes.
Responsibilities include calculating stamping material usage, specifying tooling and support equipment, producing clear and efficient drawings and instructions for tooling teams, completing revisions for existing tooling, performing engineering changes per customer requests, and updating files to reflect any changes or alterations made during the build or development process.
Responsibilities
- Analyze internal and external customer specifications, part prints, and 3D CAD data to design tools, fixtures, and gauges.
- Determine if parts can be produced within specified tolerances.
- Apply knowledge of tool and die design, shop mathematics, metal properties, and machining processes.
- Calculate estimated stamping material usage and specify appropriate tooling and support equipment.
- Produce complete and efficient drawings, prints, and instructions for tooling teams.
- Complete revisions for existing tooling, prints, and instructions for production tooling.
- Perform engineering changes per internal and external customer requests.
- Update files to reflect changes or alterations made during the build or development process.
Requirements
- Journeyman's Certificate for Tool & Die.
- Progressive stamping die background with understanding of all machining processes, tool design, build, and debug.
- Proficiency in GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and prior training in this area.
- Design experience in Solidworks, with partner programs such as Logopress (primary requirement).
- 2D design and file manipulation experience (e.g., AutoCAD, Diemaker) is occasionally needed.
- Journeyman status with a background in tool and die bench skills is preferred and required.
- Experience with tight-tolerance work, typically ranging from .004” to .032” thick materials, with additional design work up to .125” thick.

Pay
Starting hourly rate: $39, DOE (dependent on experience).
