Tool Room Technician (Non-Permanent)
About the role
The Non-permanent Tool Room Technician (Instruction & Classroom Support Technician 2) supports the day-to-day operations of the Automotive and Diesel laboratories. This position works closely with automotive and diesel faculty and reports to the Dean in the Workforce Instruction division.
Responsibilities
- Prepare automotive, diesel lab materials set-up, break down, and cleanup.
- Maintains check in and check out controls for tools and student toolboxes.
- Primary contact for vehicle key log check-in and check-out.
- Covers with automotive and diesel faculty to meet instructional set up requirements.
- Plan laboratory assignments and schedules and assist in laboratory activities and lecture demonstrations.
- Implement new experiments using standard techniques and procedures.
- Supports potential logistical and safety problems monitor every wash station, chemical cabinets, coordinated purchases, invoicing.
- Test, operate and perform routine maintenance and repairs on laboratory equipment and instruments.
- Works with facilities on hazard waste removal.
- Estimates quantity and quality of supplies and materials needed to request and follow through with procurement of supplies; maintain adequate stock levels.
- Communicates and coordinates with Seattle Colleges District Finance and Accounting Department.
- Initiates, orders, and maintains programmatic consumable needs.
- Coordinates and facilitates vehicle and equipment donation processes.
- Comply with policies to maintain safe and secure laboratories, to maintain MSDS notebooks in labs and prep areas, and to maintain identification and proper labeling of all materials.
Requirements
This position is non-permanent intended to support the department during a transitional period while long-term staffing needs are evaluated. We expect the appointment to be approximately six (6) to eight (8) months depending on program needs and funding. The selected candidate may be considered for future opportunities including potential permanent placement in this role.
Qualifications
- Highest degree in relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with automotive and diesel tools and laboratory equipment.
- Ability to set up lab exercises and laboratory equipment correctly and efficiently.
- Highly organized, efficient, detail and team-oriented.
- Ability to effectively communicate with students, faculty, and staff of diverse social, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds, and with students of different ability levels and interests.
- Ability to stay calm, organized, and focused while handling multiple workplace demands.
- Working knowledge of automotive and diesel tools and laboratory equipment and their applications.

Pay
The salary range for this position is $49,452- $64,728. Please note that initial salary placement for this position is typically between $54,432- $60,120 annually.
Schedule
This position works 100% onsite.
