Tool & Die Maker (Technical Inspector)

Responsibilities

• Examines work in progress, the construction and final inspections of repairs jigs, fixtures, cutting tools, gauges, or metal dies or molds used in shaping or forming metal or nonmetallic material.
• Inspects welds on both gas welding or brazing and any combination of arc welding processes.
• Inspects and gives guidance related to tasks such as thermal cutting and grinding, repairs broken or cracked parts, fills holes and increases size of metal parts, positions, and clamps together components of fabricated metal products preparatory to welding.
• Locates and tasks repairs for cracks in industrial engine cylinder heads, using inspection equipment and gas torch.
• Inspects painters after coating surfaces of motor vehicles such as automobiles, buses, and trucks with paint, lacquer, epoxy, resin, or other material, using brushes, rollers, spray guns and other devices.
• Removes old paint from vehicle surfaces after liquid paint remover and scrapers have been used to ensure the surfaces are smooth.
• Inspects equipment when painters are masking and covering portions of surfaces not to be painted.
• Inspects finished painted equipment or specified portions of the vehicle that require paint.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC).
• Able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
• Able to obtain and maintain a valid State Driver's License.
• Professional Technical Training in Tool Making & Die Repair or equivalent experience.
• Safety oriented, knowledge of MIOSHA standards is desired.
• Sheet Metal and class A surface experience preferred.
• Able to demonstrate understanding of how job performance affects product quality and customer satisfaction.
• Able to read blueprints.
• Able to prepare, read and interpret written reports, instruction, procedures and guidelines.
• Work to close tolerances as close as 0.0005 inch.
• Must have basic computer skills.
• Able to effectively operate safely in a high-pressure work environment.
