Duties and Accountabilities
- Work with minimal supervision of designated Supervisor. Understand and follow accepted procedures of tool & die construction.
- Analyze tool & die construction and determine procedures for rework due to revision, damage, or out of tolerance dimensions. Must have a basic understanding of G.D&T tolerances. Be able to understand and work with tungsten carbide to close tolerances.
- Plan and layout work from complicated blue prints, sketches, diagrams or oral instructions. Use shop mathematics including a good working knowledge of trigonometry. May determine own work procedures. May determine practicable dimensions where unspecified. Have a working knowledge of computer usage.
- May work with Engineering on design of new tooling. Have a basic understanding of compacting press operation. Have a basic knowledge of clearances required of tungsten carbide tooling.
- Use precision measurement equipment to inspect and measure component parts of tooling to assure conformance to prescribed tolerances and maintain a high degree of workmanship.
- Efficiently operate all machines and hand tools used in the construction of compacting tooling & press components including the operation, care and maintenance of EDM machines: also machine complex and intricate electrodes from the proper electrode materials or instruct others how to do so.
- To perform heat treating operations, brazing, silver soldering, hand polishing intricate carbide tooling to the specified finishes. Troubleshoot and make necessary adjustments/revisions as required.
- Maintain work area in a clean and orderly fashion and practice safe work habits
- Able to use designated computer programs to document and track changes and creation of CNC programs & ability to use the Internal ECR process to work with Engineering to request changes/ corrections to tool & equipment drawings.
- Participate and/or lead continuous improvement projects in conjunction with Engineering, Maintenance, Production, and/or Setup teams.
- Perform related duties as assigned
- Education: High School, Continuation of vocational or technical training desired. Journey machinist level experience desired
- Training and Experience: Four or more years experience in tool & die work.
- Interpersonal Skills: Must be able to interact congenially with co-workers.
- Oral: Fluent speaker of the English language and the ability to communicate with others in a clear concise manner. May need to communicate with other areas of the manufacturing facility.
- Written: Requires good writing skills to record and document any changes or revisions
- Equipment Operated: Lathe, C.N.C milling Machines, surface grinder, Conventional & CNC E.D.M., heat treating oven, hydraulic press, drill press, band saw.
