Tool Crib Supervisor
An international leader in aviation, Heroux-Devtek is the world’s 3rd largest producer of landing gear, serving the civil and military aerospace markets from production facilities in North America, Europe, and the United Kingdom. The Springfield facility, home to 70+ employees in a 100,000+ sq. ft. space, is a center of excellence for manufacturing medium to large complex landing gear and titanium components. This role supports critical machining operations for major commercial aircraft programs (Boeing 777, Embraer E-2) and military programs (F-18, F-35, C-17, C-130), with a focus on advanced manufacturing processes, automation, and cost-effective production.
About the role
The Tool Crib Supervisor is responsible for maintaining the inventory, purchasing, and tracking of all tooling used on the manufacturing floor to produce landing gear and other aerospace components.
Responsibilities
- Overall accountability for tool crib/tooling functions, including supervision of tool crib personnel.
- Development and implementation of methods, policies, and procedures to deploy best practices in tool crib-related matters.
- Maintain tooling database with current and new purchases.
- Responsible for processes related to all CNC tooling provided and issued to the floor.
- Work with engineers to develop the best approach for new part introduction and provide technical support for optimization.
- Coordinate purchasing of all cutting tools, tool holders, and supplies issued through the tool crib for the shop floor.
- Accountable to meet or beat budget; work with Finance to track weekly spending and identify improvement opportunities.
- Source competitive quotes for new tooling and ensure Long Term Agreements are optimized.
- Review and negotiate pricing increases on all perishable tooling.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to develop cost-effective methods or corrective actions.
- Approve employee timecards and provide annual employee reviews.
- Document accurately in accordance with protocols such as AS9100 and NADCAP.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Leadership/supervisory experience preferred.
- Experience or demonstrated ability to negotiate tooling prices and manage vendor relationships.
- Candidates must meet security screening requirements as set out by ITAR directives.
