General Duties & Functions
- Participates in installations and start-up assistance for new installations and die modifications
- Designs and fabricates small fixtures for equipment
- Improves efficiency and ensures quality standards individually and as part of a team
- Aids Quality Assurance (QA) in finding and implementing corrective actions from customer rejections
- Communicates with other shifts, operators, and technicians regarding die status
- Interprets blueprints and schematics, implements maintenance methods, and maintains dies
- Performs preventive, predictive, project, and reactive maintenance as needed
- Adjusts predictive maintenance schedules based on lessons learned
- Responds quickly to die issues, analyzes trouble using the 5 Why method, identifies root causes, and executes repairs
- Communicates specific repair details and causes to management and operations personnel
- Maintains accurate service records for monitoring die performance
- Enters relevant work orders and die repair data into the maintenance management system
- Communicates necessary supply of essential spare parts
- Develops and implements process improvements to enhance performance and reliability
- Trains newly assigned team members in equipment maintenance
Skills/Qualifications
- Experience with tool and die maintenance and repair required
- Good communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, and visual skills
- Basic math skills and reasoning ability
- Knowledge of OSHA requirements, including electrical safety, machine guarding, confined spaces, and lockout/tagout procedures
- Basic computer skills (email, Excel, Word, internet)
- Ability to operate a forklift
- Speed and accuracy in operating tools and handling materials
- Ability to interpret blueprints, schematics, and drawings
- Team spirit, flexibility, and positive attitude
- Problem-solving skills and ability to escalate issues appropriately
- Ability to complete pre-hire basic skills tests and assessments
- Passes pre-employment background check, physical exam, and drug screening
- High school diploma or equivalent, associate’s degree in a related technical field preferred, USDOL Tool and Die Journeyman certification preferred
- 4 years of tool and die experience in a manufacturing environment, or a combination of 2 years of experience plus an associate’s degree
Physical Requirements and Demands
- Standing and walking for extended periods during the work shift
- Frequent movement throughout production areas, including ascending and descending stairs, ladders, and work platforms
- Frequent kneeling, crouching, bending, stooping, reaching overhead, and working in confined or awkward positions
- Frequent use of both dominant and non-dominant hands for operating tools, handling materials, manipulating machine controls, and performing technical tasks
- Lifting and/or moving materials and equipment up to 35 pounds and, less frequently, up to 65 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation
- Frequent pushing or pulling wheeled carts, equipment, or components requiring moderate force
- Visual inspection of equipment, materials, gauges, and finished products to identify defects, malfunctions, hazards, or deviations, and recognizing safety signals, alarms, and changing conditions in the work environment
- Effective reception, understanding, and communication of technical instructions, safety information, and operational updates through appropriate means
Work Environment
- Primarily based in an active manufacturing environment
- Routine presence on the production floor
- Exposure to noise, vibration, moving machinery, powered industrial vehicles, and other industrial hazards
- Temperatures may vary seasonally and range from approximately 65–100°F depending on the area of the facility
- Exposure to raw materials such as oils, carbon black, rubber compounds, sulfur, and other additives
- Occasional exposure to elevated work areas, energized equipment, and maintenance activities requiring adherence to safety procedures
