Responsibilities

  • Observes and listens to operating machines or equipment to diagnose machine malfunction and determine need for adjustment or repair.
  • Dismantles machine or equipment to examine parts for defect or to remove defective part.
  • Installs or replaces defective part in mechanisms, machines or equipment with new part or repairs or reproduces part from various kinds of metal stock.
  • Test operates machine to verify dimensions and alignment of assembly, and conformance of finished work piece to specifications for verification of correction of malfunction.
  • Develops specifications from general description and draws sketch of part or product to be fabricated.
  • Studies blueprints, sketches, machine parts or specifications to determine type and dimensions of metal stock required.
  • Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
  • Maintains and lubricates machine tools and equipment.
  • Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on metal stock surfaces.
  • Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, and grinders.
  • Cuts, shapes, and sizes metal stock using various types of cutting tools and machines.
  • Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media according to type of operation and specified material and finish.
  • Instructs operators or other workers in machine setup and operation.
  • Changes worn cutting tools and adjusts operation of machine such as cutting speed, feed rate or depth of cut when required.
  • Operates machine tools and equipment to produce precision parts and components.
  • Adjusts and repairs machine tools and equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Works with engineers and production personnel to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to machine operations.

Requirements

  • Average of three years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in machining tool and die or machine tool programming.
  • Associate's Degree from a two-year college or university in Machining Tool and Die or Machine Tool Programming.

Qualifications

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and machine parts.
  • Knowledge of metalworking processes and techniques.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions precisely.
  • Basic knowledge of computerized machine control systems.

Pay

The typical hourly range for this position ranges from $23.66 - $36.59/hour in Minnesota. The range displayed represents the pay range for all positions in the job grade which this position falls. Individual base pay will depend on a wide range of factors including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Schedule

Shift: 1st Shift - 6:00 AM - 4:30 PM, Monday - Thursday
