Tool And Die Maker - Setup Technician - 1st Shift

We design and manufacture high-density, high-precision racking systems with automated pallet shuttles (like our Atlas 1D). Our solutions deliver up to 70% more pallet storage than traditional racking, maximize vertical space, improve pallet-selection accuracy, and reduce labor costs and product damage. With over 40 years of experience, we operate 10 manufacturing facilities, 19 commercial offices, and employ around 2,000 people serving customers in 40 countries. Our U.S. presence includes a growing team of over 70 employees in Romeoville, IL, and a new manufacturing plant opening soon in the greater Atlanta area.

About the role

As a Tool and Die Maker, you will craft and maintain precision tools, jigs, fixtures, dies, gauges, and machine tools essential to our manufacturing processes. You will also operate and oversee production lines, ensuring quality, accuracy, and efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances of tools and dies.
• Design and build tools and jigs using various machines and tools.
• Inspect finished tools and dies for accuracy and quality.
• Repair and maintain existing tools and dies.
• Collaborate with production teams to troubleshoot and resolve tool, die, and roll-forming issues.
• Ensure all tools and dies meet safety standards.
• Maintain accurate records of tool and die maintenance and repairs.
• Set up and install dies in press machines according to specifications.
• Set coils on mandrel and feed into die.
• Adjust and align dies and roll-forming cassettes for optimal operation and product quality.
• Conduct trial runs after die setup to ensure proper functioning and output.
• Inspect tooling and equipment before and after use to detect defects or wear.
• Recommend minor repairs and maintenance on dies and related machinery.
• Work closely with machine operators, maintenance staff, and quality control to support production goals.
• Troubleshoot die and press problems to minimize downtime.
• Operate overhead crane.
• Run the production line.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of a Tool and Die Maker apprenticeship program or equivalent experience as a maintenance technician, welding technician, tool technician, or die maintenance technician.
• Proficiency in reading blueprints and schematics.
• Experience using various machines and tools, including lathes, grinders, and milling machines.
• Ability to lift and move heavy objects.
• Proven experience as a Die Setter or similar role in a manufacturing environment.
• Familiarity with stamping presses or other die-based production systems.
• Ability to read, understand, and complete setup sheets.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
• Experience operating an overhead crane.
• Understanding of print reading and geometric tolerances and how they relate to the finished part.
• Ability to prepare and run complex bend setups and roll-forming operations.
