Responsibilities

  • Conduct tests for completed tools and/or dies to ensure that parts meet specifications.
  • Cut, shape, and trim material to specifications.
  • Design jigs, fixtures, and templates as needed.
  • Teach and train apprentices and Tool and Die Maker 1’s.
  • Grind and adjust different parts to properly fit them together.
  • Handle complex issues and problems; refer only the most complex issues to higher-level staff.
  • Select metals to be used based on properties.
  • Troubleshoot dies in the press and on the bench.
  • Set up and assist in operating machinery in the designated department when needed.
  • Offer improvement ideas for current tooling.
  • Complete all necessary documents fully and accurately.
  • Adhere to 5S standards (e.g., maintain cleanliness of work area).
  • Follow all Safety, Environmental, and Quality policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Perform work under minimal supervision.
  • Possess comprehensive working knowledge of subject matter.
  • Completed Tool and Die school through TCAT or equivalent.
  • Advanced knowledge of progressive, forge, or draw dies.
  • Advanced grinding, milling, and lathe knowledge.
  • 5-10 years of relevant tool and die experience.
