We are looking for a skilled tool and die maker to craft dies and metal tools for our manufacturing facility. In this role, you will be required to interpret design schematics, cut and shape dies, and assemble the completed parts. You will also need to test the performance of the completed product.
Responsibilities
- Build draw, transfer, and progressive dies for the metal stamping industry
- Set up and operate machines such as drills, lathes, grinders, and milling machines
- Build welding, inspection, and assembly fixtures per design
- Read prints and complicated schematics in order to manufacture new tooling fixtures and machine parts
- Assist with die maintenance
- Perform test runs on all tools to ensure they function properly and that the finished parts are to meet print specifications
- Analyze 3D designs and models to be manufactured
- Visualize and compute metal shapes and tolerances
- Design jigs and templates as work aids in the fabrication of parts
- Measure and mark metal stock for machining
- Cut and shape blocks to specified dimensions
- Fill, grind, and shim metals to ensure a smooth finish
- Fit and assemble tools and die parts
- Inspect finished dies and tools for defects, smoothness, and contour deformities
- Conduct test runs with completed tools and dies
- Look for and make suggestions on areas to improve efficiencies within the company
- Occasionally assist with press set-up, or other tooling support as needed
- Other duties as assigned by Supervisors or Managers
Requirements
- Experience working as a tool and die maker
- In-depth knowledge of machine tools and their uses
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and design schematics
- Extensive experience with metalworking tools including drills, milling machines, grinders, and lathes
- Ability to lift heavy objects and operate large machinery
- Experience with quality control analysis
- Excellent attention to detail
- Advanced troubleshooting skills
- Experience working with Prints and GD&T knowledge
- Ability to hold close tolerance + or - .001
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications: Two-year associate degree in machine tool technology, or Journeyman card, or completed apprenticeship. 2-3 Years of experience building metal stamping dies. Strong blueprint reading and QC skills. Experience with tool room machinery. Ability to work independently or as a team to accomplish goals. Ability to troubleshoot and suggest solutions to problems. Must be able to work overtime as needed.
Preferred Qualifications: 5+ years building metal stamping dies. Set up and operate Wire EDM Machines. Set up and operate CNC mills.
Physical Demands
Ability to lift up to 40 LBS, lift twist, grab, stand (up to 8 to 10 hours), walk, push, pull, use both hands to lift and lower materials, and perform all other essential duties with or without reasonable accommodations.
