About the role
We are seeking a Senior Process Safety Engineer to lead and improve Process Safety Management (PSM) programs within a Chemical Processing/Chemical Products Manufacturing environment. This key role serves as the site's process safety expert, partnering with operations, engineering, maintenance, and project teams to reduce risk, maintain regulatory compliance, and support safe, reliable operations.
Responsibilities
- Lead and continuously improve facility Process Safety Management (PSM) systems.
- Manage key process safety programs, including Management of Change (MOC), Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), LOPA, and risk assessments.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA PSM, EPA RMP, and applicable industry standards.
- Support capital projects, process modifications, and implementation of safer process designs.
- Conduct hazard assessments and develop risk mitigation strategies.
- Lead process safety incident investigations and implement corrective actions.
- Track and analyze process safety performance metrics and report findings to leadership.
- Develop operating procedures for new or modified processes.
- Train and mentor engineering and operations personnel on process safety best practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or related field.
- 7+ years of process safety experience in chemical manufacturing or related process industries.
- Strong knowledge of PSM, HAZOP, LOPA, risk assessment methodologies, and safety instrumented systems.
- Experience supporting regulatory compliance and audit readiness.
- Familiarity with process risk modeling and consequence analysis tools.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- 10+ years of relevant experience.
- CCPSC, PE, or similar professional certifications (will result in priority consideration).
- Experience with specialty chemicals, batch processes, reactive chemistry, or highly hazardous operations.
- Knowledge of chemical reaction prevention and reactive hazard management (highly desired, will be given priority consideration).
- Proven ability to influence safety culture and lead process safety improvements via training, implementation, and strong team communication.
