About the Role
The TMS Technician operates transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) equipment to deliver non-invasive brain stimulation treatments, most commonly for depression. The technician handles day-to-day sessions, from safety screening and device setup to monitoring patients throughout each treatment.
Responsibilities
- Deliver TMS treatments - set up and operate the device, position and maintain the coil, and administer sessions per protocol
- Assist the psychiatrist with motor-threshold determination and mapping
- Learn and deliver neuronavigated treatment - use neuronavigation to localize and maintain the cortical target 6. Conduct daily patient check-ins - monitor comfort and tolerability, manage the session experience, and respond to concerns
- Complete pre-treatment safety screening - TMS contraindications (seizure risk, metallic/electronic implants), pre-session checklists
- Administer and score questionnaires / rating scales (e.g., PHQ-9, GAD-7) and track progress across the course
- Patient coordination and scheduling - manage the multi-week treatment calendar and keep the course on track
- Coordinate with the treating psychiatrist and the supervising psychiatrist on the team; escalate clinical or safety concerns promptly
- Maintain treatment-room readiness - equipment checks, supplies, cleaning, and room turnover
- Accurate documentation in the EMR
- Provide patient education and support, building rapport across the treatment course
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree, or actively pursuing one (or high-school diploma with relevant patient-facing experience)
Experience
- Prior experience in a patient-facing or clinical role (e.g., medical assistant, scribe, research assistant/coordinator, care/CNA role)
- No prior TMS experience required - device training provided on the job
Skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; comfortable building rapport with patients
- Detail-oriented and reliable, with consistent availability for a daily, course-based schedule
- Comfortable with technology, medical devices, and EMR documentation
Licenses and Certifications
- BLS / CPR certification (can be obtained through program after onboarding)
Salary Range: $33.58 - $38.08
Work Days Weekly Hours: 35.00
