About the role
The role involves leading the design, optimization, and troubleshooting of 4G/5G networks across large-scale metro and statewide projects. The engineer will apply advanced planning and optimization tools, analyze KPI and Layer 3 data, and drive performance improvements. This position requires extensive RF/RAN experience and strong leadership capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Lead technical activities for 5+ projects, including 2 large-scale metro or statewide initiatives
- Design and optimize 4G/5G networks, focusing on LTE/5G NR, RAN, KPIs, handovers, and capacity
- Conduct drive testing, KPI analysis, and troubleshooting to improve network performance
- Use planning tools such as Planet EV, Atoll, and ACP for cell planning and link budget calculations
- Apply optimization tools TEMS, Actix, and Ericsson ENM for performance tuning
- Analyze Layer 3 messages, handovers, and capacity to identify improvement opportunities
- Recommend network design enhancements, parameter changes, and feature activations based on data
- Perform Monte Carlo analysis and event analysis to address accessibility and handover success
- Identify add‑on sales opportunities and tuning initiatives for the network
- Coordinate activities with various Ericsson departments, divisions, and external stakeholders
- Manage project and customer expectations with clear communication
- Ensure compliance with training and certification requirements, including ergonomics and refresher training
Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years RF/RAN experience with recent hands‑on 4G/5G design and optimization
- Leadership experience on 5+ projects, including 2 large‑scale metro or statewide projects
- Proficiency with LTE/5G NR, RAN, KPIs, handovers, capacity, and Layer 3 messaging
- Experience with planning tools Planet EV, Atoll, and ACP for cell planning and tilt/azimuth optimization
- Experience with optimization tools TEMS, Actix, Ericsson ENM, and related performance tuning
- Knowledge of link budget calculations and Monte Carlo analysis
- Ability to perform event analysis, drive data analysis, and solve complex performance issues
- Understanding of IRAT procedures and their impact on network quality
- Proficiency with MS Office and strong verbal and written communication skills
- Flexibility for extensive travel within the United States
- Ability to operate independently while managing project and customer expectations
- Experience coordinating with multiple departments and identifying customer requirements
