TMA Homes Not Borders: Refugee Economic Empowerment VISTA

About the role

Homes Not Borders (HNB) works to ensure that refugee families, who have resettled in the Washington, D.C. Metro area, have access to the tools they need to thrive and feel empowered and secure in all aspects of their lives. HNB focuses on programs that support client families in securing economic security, starting with a food security initiative that provides healthy food for families living on a low income as they develop connections and secure employment.

Responsibilities

• Assist Homes Not Borders as we work to support newly arrived refugee families throughout the greater Washington DC metro area.
• Build capacity for the HNB food security initiative, developing and implementing systems for regular food procurement and distribution events to provide HNB client families with reliable access to healthy food.
• Support the HNB Storytelling Program by building out a lesson plan and educational modules to incorporate into HNB client storytelling events. This will empower storytellers to speak at more events and thus generate more income.

Requirements

Speaking proficiency in Dari, Farsi or Spanish is preferred.
