About the role

The role involves planning, organizing, implementing, and delivering an instructional program for students at a high security correctional facility. The position requires assessing students, providing individualized instruction, and maintaining a positive learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, prepares, and delivers instructional activities that facilitate an active learning environment.
  • Observes and evaluates student performance and development; provides appropriate feedback and encourages progress.
  • Identifies learning needs and selects instructional resources and methods to meet diverse student needs.
  • Establishes and communicates clear learning objectives for all activities.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records of student progress and development.
  • Treats students with respect, reacts quickly to defuse hazardous situations, and ensures safety.
  • Keeps up-to-date with developments in the subject area and teaching resources, making relevant changes to instructional plans.
  • Ensures students obtain a general understanding of the labor market and demonstrate skills necessary for employment.
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with post-secondary and industry partners to provide appropriate learning experiences.
  • Performs all duties in compliance with agency safety policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and valid Secondary Texas Teacher Certification in the specified subject area.
  • Must be highly qualified in all areas of teaching assignment.
  • Required to maintain required licensure/certification and certification in TJJD's Use of Force techniques.
