About the role

The Program Director is responsible for administering and coordinating the daily operations of the Elderly Nutrition Center and Programs in accordance with DHHS/Administration on Aging and Title VI regulations, for the Alabama Quassarte Tribal Town elders. This program consists primarily of a daily congregate and delivery meal program and activities designed to improve health and social situations of the elderly.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee the Title VI programs and services such as the Elderly Nutrition Program (Congregate and Home Delivered Meals), Nutrition Services Improvement Program (NSIP), Caregiver Support, Support Services Program and Wellness Programs.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains program policies and procedures for the Title VI programs, as needed.
  • Performs budgeting tasks, program monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Plans, coordinates, and oversees activities designed to improve health and social situations of senior citizens.
  • Promotes cultural activities, respect and understanding of tribal elders.
  • Negotiates and prepares contracts or Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with vendors and service partners.
  • Work together with the Tribal Administrator, Human Resources and Accounting Departments to ensure compliance with agency policies and regulations.
  • Coplanates and implements plans of action to achieve program goals and objectives, i.e., conducts needs assessment surveys to determine health and other special needs of senior citizens.
  • Plans and develops new programs as appropriate; develops grant proposals and responds to RFPs as appropriate.
  • Ensures positive customer service in all areas.
  • Responds to complaints, taking all appropriate actions to satisfy complaints.
  • Leads an effective team in the delivery of services to senior citizens.
  • Maintains daily, weekly, and monthly reports as required.
  • Establishes and maintains a professional relationship with associated programs and funding agencies and provides outreach to the Elders.
  • Prepare monthly menus, which reflect the dietary requirements of elders in accordance with program standards.
  • Prepare written and verbal reports to Governing Committee, Tribal Administrator, and funding agencies, as needed or when requested.
  • Abides by Health and Safety guidelines ensuring a clean kitchen environment.
  • Supervise/assist staff in meal preparation and delivery of meals, as needed, keeping services within budgetary requirements.
  • Maintains and manages food inventory.
  • Receives incoming shipments; assists in unloading trucks, as needed.
  • Maintains an adequate filing system and knows office procedures.
  • Conducts orientation and oversee the training of new employees.
  • Attend conferences, meetings, and trainings.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associates Degree in Human Services or related field preferred with 3 years’ experience working with Native programs, preferably with Elders.
  • A combination of comparable education and experience may be substituted for education requirement.
  • Grant writing skills/experience preferable.
  • Proficient in computer skills such as MS Word, MS Excel, email, and the Internet.
  • Proficient in the following dimensions of center functions: food planning and preparation, purchasing, sanitation, security, tribal policies and procedures, personnel management, recordkeeping, and preparation of reports.
  • Must be able to handle the pressures of simultaneously coordinating a wide range of activities and recommend appropriate solutions to center problems.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
