9-month position, 6 hours per day. Primary work location: Jesse D. Scott Elementary School, North Las Vegas.

About the Role

This position provides instructional and clerical support to classroom teachers and students under general supervision. The role assists in implementing instructional programs, monitoring student progress, and maintaining a safe and orderly learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the teacher in delivering instructional activities and reinforcing learning concepts.
  • Provide one-on-one or small-group instruction to students as directed by the teacher.
  • Monitor and supervise students in classrooms, playgrounds, halls, and other school areas.
  • Assist with classroom management, including organizing materials, setting up equipment, and maintaining a clean and orderly environment.
  • Support students with special needs as outlined in Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or 504 plans.
  • Perform clerical duties such as grading assignments, recording grades, preparing instructional materials, and maintaining student records.
  • Assist with the implementation of behavior intervention plans and document student behavior as required.
  • Operate and assist students in the use of instructional technology, including computers, tablets, and audiovisual equipment.
  • Communicate effectively with teachers, parents, and school staff regarding student progress and needs.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and staff meetings as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the teacher or school administration.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Must meet one of the following criteria:
    • Sixty (60) semester hours of college credit from an accredited institution; or
    • Associate’s degree or higher from an accredited institution; or
    • Passing score on the ParaPro Assessment or equivalent exam approved by the Nevada Department of Education.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and parents in a diverse educational environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with instructional technology.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds and perform physical activities such as bending, stooping, and reaching.
  • Must pass a background check and provide proof of immunity to certain communicable diseases (e.g., measles, tuberculosis).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in an educational setting, particularly with elementary-aged students.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills.
  • Experience supporting students with special needs or behavioral challenges.
  • Familiarity with classroom management strategies and behavior intervention techniques.
