About the role

Assist students by helping individuals or small groups with reading, writing, and basic math skills. Implement instruction, reinforce learning skills, and support school-wide discipline procedures in a Title I designated school. Assist instructors with classroom materials, student monitoring, and evaluating student achievement. If in the Dual Language Program, duties include using Spanish. Supervise in-person students during remote learning.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students with classroom activities and implement teacher’s instruction plans.
  • Provide tutoring individually or in small groups to ensure subject mastery.
  • Supervise in-person students during remote learning, including:
    • Implement age-appropriate educational activities.
    • Provide direction, handle student discipline, and ensure safety.
    • Communicate with parents, staff, and teachers.
    • Clean classroom areas, record attendance, and support daily schedules.
  • Assist teachers with preparing materials, administering tests, grading, and attendance.
  • Monitor students during breaks, recess, field trips, and timeouts.
  • Assist with special projects and paperwork as needed.
  • Administer first aid or assist students to the clinic/nurse.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including lunchroom/playground supervision.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must meet one of the following:
    • AA or 2-year college degree, OR
    • Passing of state CDE-approved paraprofessional examination, OR
    • Complete a Personal Commitment Plan to meet requirements within a defined timeline.
  • No experience required; experience with school-age children preferred.
  • If working in the Dual Language Program, proficiency in Spanish is required.
  • If working in the English as a Second Language (ESL) area, must complete the District-administered ESL Training Program (~15 hours) within 3 months of hire.
  • Criminal background check required.
  • First Aid certification preferred.
  • Must complete Adams County BOCES Safety Training Class within 30 days of hire.

Pay

Hourly range: $18.86 – $23.83 (Step 1 – Step 9). New hires start at Step 1. Advancement to Step 8 is based on experience.

Schedule

  • 25 standard hours per week.
  • 0.625 FTE (9 months per year).
