Tissue Donation Coordinator (Hybrid Opportunity)
About the role
New England Donor Services (NEDS) coordinates organ and tissue donation in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, the eastern counties of Vermont and Bermuda. With nearly $150M in operating revenues, NEDS employs 398 clinical and non-clinical staff members throughout New England and across the country. Our vision is to be a leader in the development and implementation of strategies to increase the life-saving and life-enhancing gifts of organ and tissue donation through effective relationships with our clinical partners, donor families and the communities we serve.
Responsibilities
- Handle incoming donor referral calls from hospital staff and clinical partners to obtain and evaluate medical information regarding potential tissue donor suitability
- Work empathetically and compassionately with potential donor families to advocate for donation, conduct history questionnaires, and obtain informed consent to donation
- Cook up logistics of tissue recoveries with both internal and external partners and stakeholders
- Follow best practices and provide exemplary customer service while communicating with teammates, partners, and stakeholders including Hospital staff, Clinical partners, Funeral Homes, Medical Examiners, District Attorneys, and others
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and one year of relevant experience; or, strong consideration will be given to candidates who have an Associate’s degree, certification or license and 3+ years of relevant experience in medical field, health sciences, mental health or counseling with expertise in crisis intervention and/or grief counseling
- Working knowledge of medical terminology
- Excellent telephone communication skills
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office suite, clinical databases, and Electronic Medical Records
- Excellent organizational skills and a strong attention to detail
- Must be flexible and proactive, and have a positive attitude
Qualifications
- Ability to work both remotely from a home office setting and onsite in Waltham, MA - remote opportunities are available once you have completed the orientation process and you are completely independent. During the orientation period all shifts will be on site in Waltham, MA.

One 12-hour on-call shift every 2 weeks
