Tissue Donation Coordinator

Responsibilities

• Facilitate the Donation Conversation and provide donor families with all relevant donation options and necessary information.
• Ensure families are able to make an informed donation decision by effectively communicating either by phone or in person.
• Complete the donor risk assessment, behavioral risk assessment, donor workup process, gather and evaluate an in-depth medical history, and work closely with the Organ team to assess tissue eligibility.
• Maintain authorization rates based on established QAPI metrics, complete authorization paperwork, and identify the appropriate authorizing person based on legal order of priority.
• Complete follow-up screenings and clearly communicate donor status to Tissue Recovery Coordinators, hospitals, Organ Coordinators, and others.

Requirements

• One year of equivalent experience in one of the following: medical experience, grief or crisis management, medical or dental customer service, tissue banking with an Associate's degree, or two years of equivalent experience without an Associate's degree.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in health sciences, science-related field, communication, or psychology preferred, and/or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
• CTBS, CEBT, CPTC, ASCP certification preferred.

• Knowledge of the organ and tissue transplant fields.

• Able to maintain accurate records and real-time documentation.
• Able to work well with all levels of personnel in hospital settings and within the differing guidelines of each institution.

• Must have a high level of interpersonal communication skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations.
• Must possess a high level of self-motivation and well-developed time management, organizational, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to adhere to set guidelines and work instructions while paying close attention to detail.
• Committed to providing a high level of customer service.
• Proficiency in the use of computer equipment and software, and typing; including but not limited to Windows environment (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds at times with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Ability to reason logically and make sound decisions, to consider alternative and diverse perspectives, to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Schedule

The schedule will be Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 11:00am–11:00pm, with training taking place Monday through Friday during daytime or early evening hours.
