About the role
The Tireman performs vehicle maintenance activities on military and commercial vehicles and equipment, focusing on tires, lubrication, oil, and filter changes. Responsibilities include inspection, diagnostics, repair, and rebuild of components and assemblies.
Responsibilities
- Rotate tires to different positions on vehicles using hand tools.
- Seal punctures in tubeless tires by inserting adhesive material and expanding rubber plugs.
- Separate tubed tires from wheels using rubber mallets, metal bars, or mechanical tire changers.
- Unbolt and remove wheels from vehicles using lug wrenches and other hand/power tools.
- Drive service trucks to provide services and respond to emergency calls.
- Identify and inflate tires correctly for size and ply; order replacements for tires and tubes.
- Buff defective areas of inner tubes using scrapers.
- Hammer required counterweights onto rims of wheels.
- Locate punctures in tubeless tires by visual inspection or immersing inflated tires in water baths.
- Patch tubes with adhesive rubber patches or seal patches using hot vulcanizing plates.
- Place wheels on balancing machines to determine required counterweights.
- Prepare rims and wheel drums for reassembly by scraping, grinding, or sandblasting.
- Raise vehicles using hydraulic jacks.
- Reassemble tires onto wheels and remount wheels onto vehicles.
- Replace valve stems and remove puncturing objects.
- Visually inspect vehicles and equipment to determine overall mechanical condition.
- Perform lube, oil, and filter changes on vehicles and equipment.
Additional duties may be assigned as necessary by management, provided the work is within the recognized jurisdiction of the union and can be safely accomplished.
Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Original Social Security Card and either an Original/Certified State-issued Birth Certificate, Naturalization Certificate, or Valid U.S. Passport.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Knowledge of proper use of equipment and materials to perform duties safely.
- Basic math skills.
- Exceptional customer service and organizational skills.
- Ability to plan, organize, and complete work within established time frames.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks and maintain schedules.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English; follow oral and written instructions.
- Professional customer service skills and ability to resolve work-related issues independently.
- Interpersonal and communication skills for effective interaction with employees and management.
- Mental alertness, attention to detail, and accuracy in organizing work activities.
- Ability to work in remote locations with limited medical personnel and facilities.

- Forklift certification preferred.
- Must obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SBI security clearance.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
