Job Summary
Responsibilities
- Welds and assembles metal pieces and products using handheld welding equipment.
- Sets up welding machines and parts for welding; uses hand tools, clamps, jigs, and fixtures.
- Works from specifications, follows work instructions, understands basic weld symbols.
- Prepares and completes work on materials by welding, cutting, grinding, and cleaning metal.
- Ensures sufficient materials are available prior to starting the project.
- Welders must inspect their own work, understand basic weld defect acceptance criteria, and utilize standard fillet weld gauge.
- Follows Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) welding machine settings.
- Measures and cuts materials to specifications.
- Welds materials using the correct materials to join the metal together.
- Checks finished work to make sure that it falls within the tolerances.
- Follows all safety regulations.
Qualifications
- All Tiers: High school diploma or equivalent qualification or certificate from a combination welding program.
- All candidates must pass a welder qualification test prior to employment.
- A valid certificate in welding from an accredited institution is preferred.
- Experience or previous certifications in the GMAW or FCAW welding process is a plus.
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience as a welder with weld experience on heavy duty trucks, trailers, or similar equipment.
- 2 years’ experience welding armor material on Military vehicles is a plus.
- Capable of working with minimum supervision.
- Excellent knowledge of welding machinery, electrical equipment, and manual tools.
- Ability to read and interpret welding work instructions, understand basic weld symbols designs.
- Outstanding attention to detail.
