About the role
The State of Connecticut, Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTECS) is seeking a THS MDET Instructor to join our team at Ella T. Grasso Southeastern Technical High School, located in Groton, CT.
Responsibilities
- Develop and design lesson and/or unit plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions utilizing a variety of pedagogical methods, including but not limited to differentiated instruction, fostering building of relationships, etc.
- Provide social emotional support in the learning process and ensure student engagement.
- Provide tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintain classroom records and assess student coursework.
- Collaborate and support colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities.
- Attend periodic building-level and districtwide meetings and professional development.
- Collaborate with business and industry partners to stay current in the trade and provide feedback to district curriculum teams on modern industry practices.
- Educate students on proper safety procedures and competencies that are aligned to the Manufacturing Industry.
- Teach in a variety of settings for both theoretical and psychomotor/hands-on training, including Mechanical Design and Engineering Technology lab and theory room.
- Work on a variety of sites to complement real-world applications in an effort to bolster curriculum.
- Model and demonstrate safe work practices prior to facilitating learning.
- Stand for long periods of time, lift, climb, bend, twist and repeat the same movements as dictated by the Mechanical Design and Engineering Technology trade and projects being taught.
- Use and properly demonstrate the use of hand and power tools used in the Mechanical Design and Engineering Technology trade.
Requirements
- An active State of Connecticut Teaching Certificate in one of the following areas: 090 Occupational Subject, Vocational Technical Schools.
- In lieu of the endorsement, candidates may qualify with 8 years of relevant, varied, hands-on experience in the trade or technical field.

- Experience with educational principles, methods and techniques.
- Experience with a particular trade or occupation.
- Teaching ability.
- Ability to work effectively with students.
- Ability to express ideas simply and clearly, orally and in writing.
- Experience with oral and written communication.
- Experience teaching or substitute teaching.
- Experience with educational technology.
- Experience with SEL, differentiated instruction, synchronous and asynchronous learning.
- Experience with and prior connections to the school culture, such as CTEAC Member, WBL Sponsor, Job Shadowing Sponsor, and/or PFO Member.
Skills
- Ability to work effectively with students.

- Experience with educational technology.
