We are seeking an experienced Math Instructor to join our team at Windham Technical High School in Willimantic, CT. The ideal candidate is passionate about educating Connecticut’s youth and holds an active State of Connecticut teaching certificate in 029 Mathematics.

About the Role

The Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTECS) Mathematics Department delivers a standards-based curriculum designed to support diverse student goals, address learning gaps, and promote academic growth. Students must complete a minimum of three mathematics credits to graduate. CTECS offers multiple pathways to accommodate varying academic and career aspirations:

• Graduation and Career Pathway: Focuses on essential mathematical knowledge for the workplace and everyday life, including Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, and electives like Personal Finance with Algebra and Mathematical Applications.
• College-Preparatory Pathway: Prepares students for post-secondary education with advanced courses such as Statistics, Advanced Algebra, Trigonometry, and Calculus.
• Honors Pathway: Provides a rigorous program for highly motivated students, including Honors Algebra I, Honors Geometry, Honors Algebra II, Honors Statistics, Honors Trigonometry, Honors Pre-Calculus, and Calculus.

Responsibilities

Planning and Preparation

• Develop lesson plans with clear objectives, appropriate techniques, and differentiation to meet the needs of all learners.
• Demonstrate knowledge of high school Mathematics content and pedagogy.
• Understand and address the varied needs of each student, including collaborating with guidance personnel to implement IEP and 504 accommodations/modifications.
• Set instructional goals and outcomes, utilizing varied instructional practices and resources.
• Design effective instructional learning opportunities and assessments.

Classroom Environment

• Build mutual respect and rapport with students.
• Establish a culture for learning and manage classroom procedures.
• Positively manage student behavior and organize physical space to maximize learning opportunities.

Instruction

• Communicate effectively with students and use questioning and discussion techniques to engage them intellectually.
• Follow the scope and sequence of the approved CTECS instructional program and curriculum.
• Design instruction to meet the needs of all students through individual and small group settings.
• Utilize ongoing assessments to design clear and specific learning tasks.
• Demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness in teaching practices.

Professional Responsibilities

• Reflect on teaching practices and maintain accurate records.
• Communicate effectively with students and their families.
• Participate in building and district-level professional development and collaboration, including committees and departments.
• Engage in professional communities and demonstrate growth in professional craft.
• Adhere to the Connecticut Code of Professional Responsibility and implement CTECS Board of Education policies.
• Maintain a positive school community image, ethical student behavior, and confidentiality concerning personnel, student, and operational concerns.
• Report suspected child abuse to appropriate personnel and authorities.

Qualifications

• Active State of Connecticut teaching certificate in 029 Mathematics.
• Experience with 21st-century standards-based lesson planning aligned to the CT Core Standards in Mathematics.
• Experience with varied assessments to inform instruction and promote learning.
• Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
• Ability to work collaboratively with others and demonstrate organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Public relations skills and entry-level computer proficiency.

Schedule

• First shift, full-time position.
• 188 days per school year, 7 hours daily, Monday through Friday.
• Follows a ten-month academic calendar.

Pay

Salary range: VS01-VS02, derived from the State Vocational Federation of Teachers.
