About the role

The State of Connecticut, Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTECS) is recruiting a Hairdressing Instructor to join our team at Bullard-Havens Technical High School, Bridgeport, CT.

Responsibilities

• Cosmetology instructors are expected to be capable of teaching all aspects of the Cosmetology curriculum.
• Theoretical training involves planning and delivering information, and assessing student competency through various methods including educational technology.
• The hands-on portion requires technical skill and physical ability to perform various Cosmetology tasks.
• Instructors are expected to stand and move around for a majority of each shift.
• Teach individual and group sessions using methods like lectures, discussions, and demonstrations.
• Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among students.
• Evaluate students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
• Prepare course objectives and outlines following district and departmental guidelines.
• Assist students in providing beauty services such as hair cutting, coloring, styling, and applying makeup.
• Participate in building and district level professional development and collaboration.

Requirements

• 090 certification State of CT education certification
• Minimum of eight (8) years of relevant, varied, hands-on cosmetology experience encompassing all program areas.
• Use of point of sale software.
• Basic understanding of office suite software.
• Hairdressing/cosmetologist license.
• Current OSHA 10-Construction Industry Certification.

Qualifications

• Experience in all areas of cosmetology as specified in the program description.
• Basic computer skills to access online curriculum/resources and present lessons.
• Standing and moving around for a majority of each shift.
• Ability to instruct students individually and in groups.
• Ability to observe and evaluate students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
• Knowledge of salon settings and Department of Public Health guidelines.
• Experience with On-Campus Production in the salon.
• Ability to assist students in providing beauty services.

Pay

Salary: VS01-VS02, derived from the State Vocational Federation of Teachers.

Schedule

First shift, full time (35 hours per week) Monday through Friday.
