About the role

The State of Connecticut, Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTECS) is recruiting a Criminal Justice Department Head to join our team located in Hartford, CT.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate all of the instructional and academic activities within the assigned department and subject area.
• Provide leadership and supervision of shop.
• Represent the department regarding strategic planning issues.
• Ensure programs and courses are effectively measuring program and student learning outcomes.
• Work with related Industry Workforce programs to create multiple pathways across programs.
• Manage enrollment growth and ensure ongoing development of program.
• Supervise curriculum/course delivery and development and ensure currency of the curriculum.
• Select Advisory Committee members and coordinate advisory committee development and projects.
• Celebrate and participate in open houses and other student recruitment events.
• Coordinate program enrollment opportunities.
• Prepare and deliver lectures to students on topics such as criminal law, defensive policing, investigation techniques, and fire sciences.
• Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions.
• Evaluate and grade students' class work, assignments, and papers.
• Work with students to ensure understanding of the material.
• Compile, administer, and grade examinations.
• Participate in or develop faculty training and/or development.
• Review and recommend changes in curricula and prepare proposals for new curricula, based on the recommendations of the faculty.
• Participate in resolving faculty and student issues.
• Develop and implement strategies to promote student persistence and completion of programs.
• Identify and coordinate student Work Based Learning opportunities.
• Ensure student and visitor safety during shop related activities.

Requirements

• Active State of Connecticut Teaching Certificate in one of the following areas: 090 Vocational certification, 092 Intermediate Administration, 105 Department Chairperson, or 826 Vocational Department Head Trade Technology.

Pay

Versus 03, derived from the State Vocational Federation of Teachers.

Schedule

First shift, full time (35 hours per week) Monday through Friday.
