About the role

The full-time Security Assistant (3rd shift) provides exceptional customer service and general security support to all museum visitors and staff. This position is responsible for monitoring all CCTV cameras, communicating issues, incidents, and general operations updates to on-duty officers, and managing automated security and fire life safety systems. The incumbent must be familiar with all procedures and operations of the Control Room.

Schedule

11 pm–7 am (third shift), 5 days a week.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the integrity and functionality of security systems within the museum and remote site locations by monitoring cameras, computers, and other systems in the Control Room and throughout the Museum after hours.
  • Monitor and route emergency calls from within and outside the museum campus; contact Shift Manager for problems or concerns.
  • Adhere to written protocols and professional expectations for oversight of staff, contractor, and visitor pedestrian and vehicular traffic after hours and before opening.
  • Ensure visitor and campus security through observation, timely reporting of concerns or incidents, crowd control, emergency assistance (basic first aid, fire extinguishers, evacuation/relocation), and reuniting lost children.
  • Provide leadership in emergency protocols for evacuations and relocation; assist visitors and staff during emergencies.
  • Participate in the Safety Warden program and ensure emergency response for all emergency situations and drills.
  • Maintain a solid attendance record and adhere to the Standards and Expectations manual.
  • Proactively seek up-to-date information to remain knowledgeable of museum daily operations, way-finding, and emergency protocols.
  • Represent the VR and Security department through job duties such as garage greeter, crosswalk, parking assistant, security check-in, and dock during events.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in customer service and security with knowledge of emergency protocols.
  • CPR/First Aid certified or ability to be certified within 6 months.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Enjoy constant interaction with people and ability to communicate effectively and positively, even under high-stress situations.
  • Computer data entry skills and ability to handle and reconcile cash.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with a large team of diverse staff and volunteers.
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, and evening shifts.
  • Ability to quickly move throughout the museum and stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
  • Special consideration given to multi-lingual applicants.

Accessibility Requirements

  • Review daily handouts and email communication.
  • Interface with computer monitor screens.
  • Handle communications by telephone, one-on-one conversations, and public presentations.
  • Moderate keyboard and calculator use for administering ticket sales and paperwork processing.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods (up to 8 hours per day).
  • Ability to navigate getting self into and out of the building without trouble and assist visitors in doing so.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and work outside in all weather conditions.
