Responsibilities
- Perform thermal-hydraulic design evaluations including: steady-state and transient analysis of recirculating steam generators, two-phase flow and heat transfer analysis, incompressible/compressible flow network analysis, heat exchanger design and optimization, steam drum design, multi-phase separator design, and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling using STAR CCM and ANSYS FLUENT.
- Perform maintenance and development of in-house fluid dynamic and heat transfer analysis software in FORTRAN, Visual Basic, VBA, PYTHON, C++, etc.
- Interface with steam/water separation equipment through support of development activities including testing and analysis.
- Work with large data sets to infer trends and improve analysis techniques.
- Work with other design and manufacturing engineers in development of design of components to be manufactured by BWXT Nuclear Operations Group.
- Review fabrication drawings to ensure they satisfy functional design requirements.
- Communicate information and status orally and in written form. Document analysis by compiling a technical report that documents analysis, results, and conclusions and compile a calculation file detailing the analysis.
- Develop summary presentations on analysis results applicable to a wide variety of intended audiences.
- Work in a team comprising of thermal/hydraulic, structural, manufacturing, welding, project and QA engineers to evaluate and optimize pressure vessel designs.
- Work closely with manufacturing and project engineers to resolve fabrication related issues.
- Afford opportunity for a variety of mechanical engineering analysis assisting other groups within Design Engineering, including structural design/stress analysis such as: linear elastic sizing, fatigue, elastic-plastic, fracture mechanics, shock and vibration, thermal/mechanical, and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) using ABAQUS or ANSYS.
