Thermal Engineer III - Lunar Permanence

About the role

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. The goal is to build sustainable infrastructure for transporting crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the definition and development of spacecraft thermal control systems.
  • Work directly with NASA and National Team Partners as part of the Human Landing System (HLS) Crew Lander Thermal Systems Engineering Vehicle Team.
  • Lead design, build, integration, testing, and verification efforts for a heat rejection system.
  • Design, size, build, test, verify, and validate aerospace hardware.
  • Manage technical interfaces and collaborate with other engineers, managers, and program leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • 10+ years of relevant thermal engineering experience
  • Strong grasp of heat transfer and fluid mechanics
  • Demonstrated experience in designing, sizing, building, testing, verifying, and validating aerospace hardware

Preferred Skills And Experience

  • 12+ years of relevant thermal engineering experience
  • Understanding spacecraft thermal control hardware and spacecraft thermal systems design, specifically active thermal control systems
  • Vendor technical management and product delivery experience
  • Experience with technology development or maturation efforts, including leading development testing efforts and managing development risks
  • Experience with heat exchangers and cryogenic fluids
  • Able to work well in an integrated collaborative team environment
  • Highly self-motivated with strong organizational and written/oral communication skills
