Thermal Engineer III - Lunar Permanence

About the role

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. The goal is to build sustainable infrastructure for transporting crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the definition and development of spacecraft thermal control systems.
  • Work directly with NASA and our National Team Partners as part of the Human Landing System (HLS).
  • Lead design, build, integration, testing, and verification efforts for a heat rejection system.
  • Develop and integrate thermal components across the Blue Moon Crew Lander as part of the HLS Crew Lander Thermal Systems Engineering Vehicle Team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • 10+ years of relevant thermal engineering experience
  • Strong grasp of heat transfer and fluid mechanics
  • Demonstrated experience in designing, sizing, building, testing, verifying, and validating aerospace hardware

Qualifications

  • 12+ years of relevant experience in thermal engineering
  • Strong understanding of spacecraft thermal control hardware and systems design, specifically active thermal control systems
  • Demonstrated ability to own and deliver hardware or systems within an integrated engineering team in the aerospace industry
  • Vendor technical management and product delivery experience
  • Experience with technology development or maturation efforts, including leading development testing efforts and managing development risks
  • Experience with heat exchangers and cryogenic fluids
  • Able to work well in an integrated collaborative team environment, including frequent interactions with other engineers, managers, and program leadership
  • Highly self-motivated with strong organizational and written/oral communication skills – able to prioritize and execute tasks in a fast-paced environment
